There has been some very welcome news for the Irish economy this week, as employment figures have seen a substantial increase compared to recent years.
It has now been confirmed that Ireland has over 2 million people in employment for the first time since 2009. This positive step and the fact that job vacancies are growing all the time, means it’s the perfect time for people who are considering a move here.
According to the Central Statistics office of Ireland, 56,200 extra jobs were created in the past year. On average, that’s just over an impressive 1,000 jobs a week.
The even better news for Ireland is this number is set to keep climbing. The Minister for Finance Michael Noonan has said the government’s “ambition is to help create 200,000 new jobs by 2020, including 135,000 outside of Dublin”.
How is the IT sector doing?
As expected, the IT sector is faring well in this employment increase. According to Silicon Republic this summer has been particularly good with a whopping 1,500 jobs announced in July alone.
August has also been off to a great start with a massive 979 jobs announced so far. These jobs should be a reassurance to anyone who is interested in an IT career in Ireland.
In line with the increase in job vacancies, we now have more people choosing Ireland as a relocation destination than previous years.
There has been a 14.4% increase in immigration figures this year compared to last year according to the Central Statistics office. Inward migrants rose from 69,300 at the beginning of summer last year to 79,300 at the same time this year.
Where are Ireland’s companies hiring from?
Stelfox IT has recently conducted some research to see where the majority of relocating IT professionals are coming from.
With a high percentage people being hired from Ireland and the UK, there is a large proportion of people coming from Mainland Europe, Eastern Europe and across all areas of Asia and South America.
Stelfox IT is currently working on exclusive projects with a large variety of companies who are looking across Europe and further afield to hire their tech talent.
